7/25/12 Update

Ok, I know, I know - what has been happening since June 24th...  well lots.

Septic system was installed.  This is the tank...

Here they are installing the leech field....Exciting, I know!!

They finished all the sheetrocking and sanding on June 26th, so I spent a good deal of time cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, so that we could start painting.

The painting started on July 4th (great way to spend a Holiday).  Bob & I got into our tyvek suits and started using the sprayer to primer the walls and ceilings.  This continued through the week-end....July 7th, when we had Peter G., Allie G and Al R. join us.  We spent that Saturday painting the ceilings - while Bob finished spraying the primer.

I then spent every night during the week - 2 hours at a shot - putting the 2nd coat on the ceilings.  Here is a picture of the Kitchen - walls primered and ceilings painted white.

On Friday, July 13th - Allie came down with Holden and we tackled our first room with "Color".  You can see in this picture below the Kitchen (right) and the Dining room (left).  This is a neutral color that we went with throughout the Living room, Dining and Kitchen.  Bob & I then tackled the rest of this color on Saturday the 21st.

Al helped us with the "COLORS" on Sunday 22nd.  Say Hi Al!!

And NOW...Introducing "BOB & DEE'S COLORS".  COBALT BLUE - Dining Room (2 coats)

CAYENNE PEPPER RED - Foyer (3 coats - with one more to go)

EARTHY YELLOW - Great Room (3 coats -with a little more touch up to do)

And then.....Monday - The Hardwood Floors started to go in...it really is starting to look like a home.  Here is the Great Room.

Another view from today - you can see how it plays well with the colors - yellow and red.  And yes, those are my shoes - I took them off and walked around bare foot for the first time in my home...and no slivers.

Here is our Guest Bedroom.  This room doesn't have paint colors yet - - WAY TOO MUCH painting to do and we are still picking out colors.  You can get a glimpse of how we sealed the windows with blue tape and sheets of plastic.  This allowed Bob to spray the primer without having to worry about the windows.

Well - Hope you enjoyed today's update.  Stay tuned for more...We have been finalizing our cabinet stain colors.  I didn't show you the door design (which are done except for stain), cause I need to keep some things back for the "reveal".  But they look great  and reflect our Southwest and Rustic style.

Later - Dee.

6/24 Update

The well was connected this week.

The Well and the trench going to the house - we are close to having running water - but surprise - we need septic installed before we can start using running water....ugh ... details, details.

We should have plenty of pressure - 20 gallons/minute.  This storage tank will allow us to store water during the dry seasons.

So the amazing thing is that we did drywall returns; so no trim around the windows.  We also rounded the corners all around the window - this gives us a real "Adobe" look.  If you have ever been to Santa Fe - you know exactly what I am talking about.

Another example of the rounded window returns.

The rooms are starting to take shape.

This is coming from the garage into the utility area.  The door in front of you goes out to the courtyard.  The first door on left is laundry, second is pantry and third is powder room.
The Great Room and our fabulous front door.
The kitchen is on the left, Great Roopm on the right.  You can kinda see the fireplace in the Great Room (although there is a piece of sheetroom leaned up against it.
Guest bathroom.  Mom would have loved that shower with the low threshold entry.
Master Bedroom with the awning window.

Happy Memorial Day Week-End.  So what did Bob & Dee do over the holiday week-end; we patched holes, put in sound proofing, built a wall and torn down a closet.  Also, Dee's brother Al put in some hours to help us with the above, and help frame out some areas in the ceiling so that we can get insulation started this coming week.

So here are a couple of pictures of the insulation/sound proofing.  What we tried to do is insulate the bedrooms from the great room space.  This will make for some great, quiet guest rooms for the kids to sleep, while the parents party into the night.

I (Dee) think I did a great job, given this was my first time working with insulation.  I also did the easy stuff while Bob & Al used the saw, climbed the tall ladder and hammered away.

Leaving the Master Bedroom
Master Bedroom to the closet and master bath
Great Room, looking at the bedrooms.  That spot in the center is where the TV will be. The three doorways lead to the 3 bedrooms.
Guest bedroom closet, behind where the TV will be in the Great Room.
Orange and white foam, creating an air barrier around the door and in this "tight to insulate" spots.
Outside; opposite of the Great Room fireplace.  Bob had to add some foam to seal off the top of the fireplace chase.  Nice Work!!
You can see the half wall here (bottom left), although I ran out of insulation and need to patch a couple areas.
Here you can see the orange foam sealing where the wires come out of the house for exterior lighting.  Wahoo, so much fun!!!
